Extras

EXTRAS, 2005 — 9 hour, colour, silent. Exhibition format HD on 43" plasma screen.
Extras is a permanent video and photography installation at Dramatiska institutet — University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre in Stockholm. The work was commissioned by Statens konstråd — The National Public Art Council Sweden.

This video shows 198 persons lying down on a white surface to form a long chain, intertwined one after another. Extras are asked to lie still while the never-resting camera robot slowly and methodically sweeps over their bodies.

The installed piece starts at 8 am in the morning — ending and changing direction at 5 pm. To 9 pm the video has the ambition to comment on the working day within the institution the work actually is placed. This can also be said for the number of extras engaged in the piece which corresponds to the amount of people working / studying in the building.
